Mexican Wedding Culture Video and Photography
Mexican culture is very family oriented. Therefore, when a wedding occurs, it is a huge event. Some of Mexico's culture and traditions originates back to the times of the ancient Aztecs. After the Spanish came to Mexico, Spanish and Catholic customs were introduced to the Mexican culture. Many of Mexico's customs originate from both the Aztecs and Spanish. About half of Mexicans are Roman Catholic, so Mexican weddings often have strong Catholic traditions as well.
Some regions of Mexico present a promise ring to the bride, which is a pre-engagement ring. Many Mexicans have long engagements, which is what prompted the promise ring tradition.
Godparents often are the financial sponsors for a Mexican wedding. They also act as advisors to the engaged couple. At the very least, godparents usually provide the couple with a Bible and rosary beads for the wedding ceremony.
Before leaving for the wedding, the bride's mother often says a prayer together with the bride.
According to Mexican custom, it is bad luck for the groom not only to see the bride, but to see the bridal gown before the wedding.
Mexican weddings are very important events with many participants. There are usually many attendants to the bride and groom, called madrinas and padrinos. The ring bearer and flower girl also dress up as a bride and groom. The ring bearer carries a rope of rosary beads to place around the couple after they pledge their wedding vows. The rope is a symbol of the love that binds them together. The flower girl carries flowers for the Virgin Mary.
